Guys I don’t fully understand multiclass dabbler and initiate.

Guys I don’t fully understand multiclass dabbler and initiate. For example if I am a fighter and at lvl 2 I multiclass into wizards spell book. As I further level do I continue to gain wizard levels as well as fighter levels?

  1. If the move you select is Cast A Spell (and Spell Book, and Prepare Spells, since they’re all treated as one move), you continue to gain spell levels, yes–but you gain no other benefits from the Wizard class. I.e., you don’t get access to any other Wizard moves unless you spend another Multiclass advance on it.

Also, importantly, you are treated as level one in whatever class you multiclass into initially, so you select your first spells as if you were a level one Wizard regardless of whether you multiclass at level two or level eight.

There’s a section in the book on it, but I don’t have my copy on me so I can’t give you a page number. Here’s the srd link, though.

  2. You only get one move. You do not get to return to select additional moves from the playbook as you level.

The only caveats in the rules that I know of, however, is that if you select a move that requires another, you get both moves. For example, if you took the wizards cast a spell, you also get spellbook and prepare spells. This does not apply to moves that are upgrades to previously selected moves. You could only take those if you took the required move with multiclass dabler and then took the upgrade with multiclass initiate.

That’s an answer as to the rules, however, I would probably let a player continue to do so if they were really excited about it, weren’t stepping on another players specialty, and had a good fictional reason to do so.

    Hope it helps!
