Just to make sure I’m interpreting the rules correctly: when you get a +1 Forward, it applies to the next Move the player makes, whatever it is, so they cannot treat the Forward like a Hold and use it at a time of their own choosing, right? So specifically if they roll e.g. a 10, the Forward is still consumed, even if it doesn’t do anything?

Similarly, I would assume the conditional +1 Forward a player can get after Discern Realities or the Know-It-All wizard Move can only be used if the condition is fulfilled for the very next Move the player triggers, not just at any random later point in time. Is that correct?

  1. I’m pretty sure that’s correct. A +1 forward without a condition is applied to the next roll the player makes, regardless of what it is. A +1 forward with a condition applied to the next roll that meets the condition. As you said, it a difference between +1 forward and hold.

  2. you are mostly correct

the +1 forward that is obtained through moves like Take Watch or Aid or Interfere is applied to the next roll a player makes

the +1 forward from Discern realities is applied to the next roll a player makes that “acts on the answers”

  3. Adding on to what others have said, the key is that the +1 forward does linger until it’s condition is met.

So if I Discern Realities on a wedding procession, and immediately after acid rain begins to fall (getting to cover triggers a defy danger + dex), I still get the +1 forward if I act on the knowledge I got from the Discern Realities (for instance when I go to Parlay with the duke who I saw whispering with the countess).

It does not have to be the immediate next roll, but the next roll which satisfies the condition.
