In thinking about monster scaling, I wanted to get my head around hit point progression for players so I made this chart. It’s based on a party of four: Cleric, Fighter, Mage and Thief. (The spreadsheet can be re-configured with up to eight characters of any class.)

  1. I am currently tinkering with using the existing DW monster creation questions as a basic structure, adding in questions about size, experience, age, and behavior that will punch up HP.

  2. That sounds very cool. I started this because I’m doing a ton of test combats to see what a “fair fight” looks like. I have the crazy idea that I can design a system where monsters are scaled using “Threat Points” to give them extra HP, higher damage dice, nasty tags/moves, etc. In this way I think of a monster–like those listed as a random CREATURE in PW–as a template. I also want a bit more predictability, because there’s only so much I can take of “being a fan” of the characters before my old-school blood lust rises. 😛
