I want to run a campaign in TSR’s Dark Sun world using the Dungeon World rules. I know that Saving Throw Show is doing this and I have watching some of their sessions and they have been great fun. I know that I’m probably going to have to create my own character classes for this game and do a lot of up front work. What Dark Sun source books would be useful for doing this? Is there any premade Dungeon World content that could assist me in this?

  1. I give ++++++ to anything involving Dark Sun! Why create your own classes, though? Magic has additional rules, but aren’t the other classes pretty much the same? For sure you would need new races (or drives if you don’t want to use racial moves).

  2. I wouldn’t try and convert everything upfront. If you’re playing with people who also know and love Dark Sun, then talk out what characters they want to play, and then grab some playbooks that match.

You may have to hack a few things around (like removing spells from bards and adding poisons, racial moves for Thri-keen, etc.) but overall it should be a pretty lightweight conversion.

For alternate playbooks, I always recommend Awful Good Games’ stuff, because they are top notch. Their sourcebook A Sundered World is rich with stuff to mine for Dark Sun (battlemind playbook, their take on wizards but make it so you defile the land instead of your own mana).

This City Thief playbook is sweet too: http://poorimpulsectrl.tumblr.com/post/93966596752/the-city-thief-dungeon-world

I would probably use the Channeler from Grim World for elemental clerics. And the Grim World people did a Psion standalone class that is pretty good too.
