Hey folks, do you use music when running a game? Any tips on how to choose the right song for the right moment?

I’ve been using the soundtracks from the good old Infinity Engine videogames and they work amazingly well for the classic “adventurer party looking for gold and glory” theme, but I want to hear about your experiences and get some suggestions you might have : )

  1. I’ve done well with a few Midnight Syndicate albums. They actually got the job to do an official Dungeons & Dragons soundtrack which I’m fond of, and several of their other albums are awesome as background music for Call of Cthulhu.

And then when I ran a convention game of Star Munchkin RPG, I used a track titled Carmen Miranda’s Ghost is Haunting Space Station 3. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5p8YhhaVlA )

  2. Yes. The players and I love it. I have a series of playlists on spotify categorized for what the heroes could be up to: peaceful/steading, perilous journey, dungeon, combat, Big Bad, Holy Place, etc. Link to my profile below if you want to check them out. Mostly a mix of Witcher and Dragon Age albums with a smattering of others. Hope you like it.
