Maezar posted his cool character sheets, where Thieves could use INT or DEX for their core moves; and Clerics could use WIS or CHA for their core moves. What about Mages using INT or CON for their SpellCasting move?

Fictionally Mages are digging deep within their soul/ego/psyche to draw forth their mystical power.

Can’t think fictionally an alternate stat for Bend Bars Lift Gates for the Fighter…

  1. I think for the new edition I’m going to stick with a single primary ability score per class, and suggest good secondaries with the moves (i.e., it’s clear from the Fighter’s role and moves that Dex and Con are their secondary scores). I will be changing the Cleric’s primary to Wis instead of Cha based on feedback, but include moves that encourage a strong Charisma score.

If it makes sense, I will include alternate primary abilty score choices in the Advanced Freebooters booklet.

  2. I made these changes MAINLY to accommodate the habits of D&D players, who I LOVE to “convert” to FotF. Sure, it would be easy too just coach them to adapt, but what feels unfamiliar sticks out at them. In fact, I had two different cleric players create characters and then say something like “WTF… I gave myself a 15 WIS and an 8 CHA and it says here that I use CHA for everything! I want a wise cleric and since when do they need CHARISMA?” Henceforth, during character creation, I explain that there are two ways to lead in faith: by force of personality (CHA), or by the example of good judgement (WIS). Each represents a different type of relationship to the deity as well.

Thieves too… I’m really just into making my players more comfortable, which I think lets them have more fun.

I would allow a variant class a la classic “Sorceror” that uses CON instead of INT for casting power (“I don’t understand how I do this, but I know when I pour myself into it, magic happens”.)

I suppose what’s left is the “Swashbuckler,” a fighter who uses DEX as the basis of something like “Mettle”.
