  1. Sort of off the cuff, without a lot of thought, mainly to evoke ideas and where I’d go with it:

When you have 5 Tainted (ed: I’d use 5-taint ala AW myself), erase all Tainted and mark one of the following:

    – You hear color, even in the darkest spaces. Doing anything in bright light requires a Defy Danger with Int or else you can’t stay focused on the task.

    – You can see the astral flow beyond all things. Add “What here most affects the astral flow?” to Discern Realities questions. When you ask it, you must Defy Danger with Wis or suffer arcane backlash.

    – The quicksilver is embedded deep in your lungs, and leaks from your nose and mouth. Take a -1 Cha debility but it also sustains you, allowing you to go hours without breathing.

    – … Maybe a few more…

    – The costs are too much. You dead.

  2. Yeah, that’s a really good starting place Aaron Griffin. It actually ties in really well with the consequences of major arcana I’ve been using for Stonetop.

Hmm. This could also become a compendium class, powered by Tainted rather than XP.

    Hmm hmm hmm.

Any other ideas out there? Keep ’em coming!

  3. You start with 3 Sanity

When you are exposed to quicksilver fog, which is madness and corruption made manifest roll + Sanity

On 10 + you are full of bravado. Take +1 forward.

On 7-9 you are ok for now.

On 6- things happen to you according to your Sanity. Then lose 1 Sanity.

3 Sanity: You are badly shaken by visions of evil and corruption. If you choose to stand your ground, take -1 ongoing while the situation lasts.

2 Sanity: You are disabled by visions of horror and corruption. You cannot act until the current situation passes.

1 Sanity: You are enthralled by the idea of spreading horror and corruption. The GM uses you as a monster for one move only against your allies, then you are disabled untill the situation passes.

0 Sanity: You go insane. The GM uses you as a monster, or you are locked up in a padded cell where your parents may visit you once a year through the little glass window in the door. Whichever the case, time for your player to fill out a new playbook!

  4. When you are exposed to quicksilver fog, which is madness and corruption made manifest, add 1 to TAINT.

When you go to sleep, and the madness whispers in your dreams, choose:

    1) do what it says, and gain your TAINT in experience points.

    2) stand strong against the voices, and roll +TAINT.

On a 13+, the taints carries you away. No one will see you again.

On a 10-12, roll your last breath.

    On 7-9, take a debility.

Then, set your TAINT to 0.

  5. I kinda like Wynand Louw’s approach except I’d go with Taint, flip 10+ with 6-, and apply Taint as a penalty against the character’s dominant trait. (Edit: against the character’s dominant trait modifier)
