On a 10, they believe you and do what they can to help.

On a 7-9 pick one:

-They are hesitant to believe you until there is more evidence.

-Some panic and do something foolish.

-The trouble will arrive sooner than any expected.

  1. Cool idea. But doesn’t ‘They demand more evidence’ contradict ‘They believe you’?

You could maybe amend it to ‘They won’t commit fully until you provide more evidence’, to reflect the sort of half-arsed help that’s a good start, but not enough to get the job done.

Isn’t that just more words to say “They demand more evidence.”? The assumption would be that they WILL believe you when more evidence is presented/gathered. Also “more evidence” could come in the form of a village being attacked, children going missing, etc. It need not come directly from the PCs, it could come form the danger itself.

I do see your point and altered the wording a bit.

  3. +Eric Lochstampfor I think the issue for me is that picking that option completely negates the benefit of the hit, at least until the evidence is supplied. It feels like there needs to be some immediate positive effect, not just a guarantee that they’ll believe you later.

  4. It feels akin to Parley. On a 7-9, they will do it but only if a promise or evidence is given. Now, I don’t particularly like that 7-9 outcome on a Parley because it allows the chance of nothing happening, so I think you’re right to alter that a bit.

  5. Perhaps the first option could be “Only some of them believe you, the rest demand more evidence”? You get a benefit from your hit, but only a partial success. Those that are sceptical might even work against you or try to persuade those that are following you that they’re wrong…

  6. Success at a cost – the cost is more evidence. There are two other options in which they believe you immediately but have different costs associated with them.

Like I said, I get your point and if you want to use a reworded version or even drop that option, feel free.

This is DW tailor it to how you see fit.
