  1. I’ve sprung compendium classes on players before, and it’s worked out quite nicely (as we’ve been narratively working up to one or another). That said, when someone has an idea of how they’d like their character to develop that is encapsulated well by a compendium class, I try to work with them to either develop one or play things out so that one becomes available to them. I feel like facilitating exciting ideas about the players’ characters is one of the best ways to drive the story, and I’m pretty flexible about how they enter into it.
