A character in my Dungeon World game received a shield that was once owned by Pencast, a great warrior of the Kenedhel, the forest witch people.  It’s a wooden shield with the abstract image of the face of a forest bison on it.

What are its properties beyond those of a normal shield, do you think?  There is no wrong answer.

  1. The Shield of Kenedhel

When you rush an opponent and lead with your shield Roll+Str:

On a 10 – you do your damage and shift your opponent’s position (describe how you push them back, over away from)

    On a 7-9 choose 1

    — do your damage

    — shift your opponents position

    — do both but fall with your opponent

    Something like that?

  2. I likes James Sauers idea that you can shove it into the ground to make it grow into fantastic shapes. Maybe it creates a beanstalk to climb a cliffside, provides a tall tower for you to take on oncoming hordes of enemies, or anything you can think of.

  3. Summon phantasmal stampede of bison, but only at the cost of the shield (it disintegrates with the sypathetic vibrations in the earth the stampede causes).

  4. Absolutely nothing.

Kenendhel Earth Bison was a proud warrior, who believed her arm was strong enough without the witchcraft of her people.

So she built this absolutely mundane shield and walked in battle without any magic, only one of her kind to do so.

When you reveal the crest on the shield to a Kenendhel they remember Earth Bison legend and you hold 3. You can spend your hold to lead the Kenendhel into heroic battle. They will follow you.
