Can anyone recommend a good podcast or YouTube video to show a good example of the right way to play Dungeon World?

Can anyone recommend a good podcast or YouTube video to show a good example of the right way to play Dungeon World? I’ve only played twice and one time was GMing and I really don’t think I have my mind wrapped around it just right. I really want to play more since it is a rather fun game and a completely different approach (for me anyhow) to playing a RPG.

And please let’s not dive into a “certain point of view” Obi-Wan type crap about “the right way to play” please.

Thanks everyone!

  1. By all means watch videos.  I’d support Eric Lochstampfor and Sean Dunstan ‘s recommendations whole-heartedly.

But my advice: play more Dungeon World.

I have been able to play to my heart’s content by forming and joining online groups.  I have played for a number of GM’s, and GM’d for even more players.

Each time i play, i pay attention to what i see; what works, what doesn’t.  I solicit feedback, and i seriously consider criticism without reacting defensively.  I have become a better GM (and character player) from being polite to people, considering the sessions seriously while still playing for enjoyment, and simply playing A LOT of DW.

    Good luck in the Dungeons!

  2. I say Andrew Fish needs to record one of his sessions. I have not even had a so-so session involving DW with him.

Rollplay and Miss clik both have good vids.

  3. I would also say read the book…a lot. The GM stuff specifically. I was like I know how to GM i don’t need to read this. But really it teaches you GMing right, its also a bit confusing so you have to re-read sections. Videos of people playing won’t show you what moves the GM are making and when they are making those moves kind of.

  4. james day has a good point about the GM stuff. If you’re down for some active listening, keep a little notepad with you when you’re watching/listening to others’ games, and make a note every time you recognize a GM move. It should be good practice for identifying how GM moves are just ways to codify the stuff GMs tend to do anyway, and it might just remind you to use some of the rarer moves yourself.
