FotF – Magic user playbook, Arcane Research advanced move:

Is it possible to research a spell by accumulating weeks of study? Common sense seems to suggest so, because even with a 10+, 3 hold is clearly not enough to research one spell; but the description of the move is a bit vague about this.

Do the weeks need to be consecutive or can you alternate them between adventures?

Is there a limit to the amount of weeks you can spend on a spell?

Perhaps I am being a bit OCD with this move, but I find it a bit confusing that it does not specify anything about spending more than one week per spell being researched.

  1. Hi Goiz — thanks, and welcome!

Yes, it is possible (and probably necessary) to research a spell over more than 1 week; no, the weeks do not need to be consecutive; and there is no limit to the number of weeks you can spend researching.

The basic idea is that the smarter you are and the better your roll, the less time you have to spend researching.

Thanks for bringing that to my attention! I’ll add some language to clarify the multi-week aspect of the move.
