Hey.

Hey.

Hey. If you remember me, it’s probably for my old Elf, Dwarf and Halfling bundle (available here: tinyurl.com/dwoldschool)

The response to it has been excellent, not just from reviews and play but from people inspired by them to create new classes. It’s practically a sub-genre by now, the race-as-class playbook, and congratulations to everyone who finds success with it. I’ve read many, and sometimes talked about a few. And the actual play reports are some of my favorite things in this world!

This is relevant because I have now released my take on an Orc playbook, and I hope people will enjoy it as well. http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/146465/The-Orc–A-Dungeon-World-Playbook

It may be the prelude of something more to come.

  1. We’ll get some nice graphical ones up soon…ish? Until then, I’ll try to tide you over with some examples from the Orc.

    You start with these moves.

    The Fires of Industry

As long as you have enough time and destroy something in the process, you can always craft a weapon of your own design. This weapon weighs 1 weight, is clumsy in any hands but an Orc’s and ugly to all but your own kind. Give it an appropriate range tag: hand, close, or near. If it has the near tag, it also has the thrown tag. If you destroy a well-made or beautiful item, also give it one of the following tags: +1 damage, precise, or forceful.

    Orcish Craft

When you attack while wielding a weapon you have made, you may choose to re-roll an attack. If you do, your weapon breaks.

    Made to Suffer

When you would suffer from poison or disease, they instead disfigure you outwardly but cause you no real harm. You can tolerate conditions others cannot, and do not need to mark rations when you Make Camp unless you are in a hell-blasted wasteland.

    Foetracker

When you use your nose to track a creature whose scent you know, as long as their trail isn’t cold, roll+WIS. On a 10+, you find them quickly, and they do not know they were followed. On a 7-9, choose one or the other.

    Dishonor Before Death

    Choose one combat style:

*Brutal*: when you strike brutally, fiercely or mercilessly, your attack gains the messy tag —you cause severe damage, such as breaking bones or severing limbs.

*Cunning*: when you dishonorably, desperately, or deceitfully strike at your foe, you always catch your opponent off-guard, dealing your damage without needing to make a move. You may only use this against a given foe once—after they’ve seen your true colors, they won’t fall for the same trick again.

*Reckless*: when you Defend with reckless abandon and no regard for personal safety, you may choose to take 2 damage (ignoring armor) to gain +1 hold, even on a miss.

    1-5 Advance:

    Slash and Burn

When you do battle amid a scene of chaos and destruction which you helped create, take +1.

    5-10 Advance:

    Orc Smash!

You automatically smash through furniture, wooden doors, simple walls, barricades, weaklings, cowards, and halflings who stand between you and where you wish to go, all without Defying Danger.
