When you use all your might to stop the walls from closing in…roll+STR

On a 10+ It takes all you’ve got to make them grind to a stop…

On a 7-9 It takes all you’ve got to slow them down…

Was thinking of a move for the classic wall crushing trap.

A fighter would use bend bars/lift gates, but not every party has a fighter.

  1. If you feel the wall trap could be taken care of by just anyone, sure, the move works well. Otherwise, if you think super-human strength would be needed, I might just say the wall is too heavy to stop with your bare hands (unless their character does have that kind of strength, like a fighter), what do you do?

On the other hand, I do like how this wall trap lowers regardless. Perhaps a 10+ should be to slow it down and a 7-9 would be an even more difficult situation to deal with, like it slows down and your hat is in danger, unfortunately dropped just beneath the lowering wall.

  2. Changed the wording and the outcomes of the move so they more clearly incapacitate the character. They can’t just stop the walls and move on, they’ve stopped the walls, but it still takes their full attention, fictionally speaking.

Like I said it’s more of a stop gap if a fighter or BB/LG move is not available to the party. Also a very easy move to aid with (I aid by pushing against the walls too, etc…)

  3. So, without a fighter’s BB/LG, they could defeat the trap:

…by jamming a sword into the mechanism (Roll+INT)

…by chimney-climbing up the walls when they are close enough, but before they are TOO close (Roll+DEX)

…by finding the hidden safety kill switch that OSHA’s Trap Construction Code requires (Roll+WIS)

…I’ve got nothing for CON or CHA.

  4. Roll+CHA:

10+ : “The Trap and you hit it off really well and you make arrangements to go out for coffee.”

    7-9 : Pick one:

“The Trap decides to let you go” OR

“The Trap decides to let the rest of your party go”.

    6- : “Squish”

  5. … and so, based on a true story, began the tale of Wizard and the Wall. This perilous journey will make you laugh and cry as the two pursue love, life, and an adventure to remember. Wizard sure is a patient one even though Wall can be a bit of a narcissist at times! Oh, Wall! How we have fallen in love with you.
