Hey folks, I’ve seen some really good feedback in this tavern. I’d like to run a playbook through the group for your insights.

I’ve written up The Judoka as a Judo playing character, focused primarily on unarmed attacks throwing and.grappling, and the ability to redirect or evade “forceful” incoming attacks, with advanced moves allowing a little specialization in a choice of a few areas.

Thank you!

  1. Tachi Waza – Throwing Techniques (Dex)

First off, a move should never say you try or attempt something. “When you throw an enemy in melee”

Second, you roll+DEX instead of STR. For what move exactly?

  2. Ah excellent point, ‘there is no try, only do!” – Thank you!  I’ve updated the document.

As for +DEX instead of +STR, i’m keeping it thematically tied to judo.  The way you overcome strength is to not oppose it with your own.  You get out of the way, and then maybe add a little power to help them along, but you don’t simply overpower them in the first place.

  3. I think he means that the “instead of +STR” is unnecessary. You’re creating a new move. If you were modifying hack and slash, then you can say “Roll hack and slash using +DEX instead of +STR”. But in this case, just leave it out.

Thanks, feel free!  The version in my google drive is updated to reflect the earlier feedback.

I’d love to hear your thoughts after a playtest.  I’m primarily GMing, and haven’t taken the opportunity to give The Judoka a try myself.
