The shield of the lost soldier (+2 armor, worn, 0 weight)

This shield will only accept the most patriotic and noble wielder. Once you have removed all the ice from it you find it to be incredibly light but able to deflect the strongest of blows and magic. Even more interesting are it’s flight capabilities.

When you throw the shield of the lost soldier at an enemy, say how you do it. If you do it

* by bluntly hurling it, roll+STR

* by being graceful and accurate roll+DEX

* by carefully calculating it’s flight roll+INT

On a hit you deal Stun damage to an enemy and on a 10+ you choose 3, on a 7-9 you choose 1

* You hit an additional enemy (you can choose this option multiple times)

* You deal an additional 1d6 normal damage

* It returns to your hand

When you spend time to train with the shield of the lost soldier you can take these moves:

Throwing savant

When you throw the shield of the lost soldier, on a hit, you can always choose an extra

You hit an additional enemy

Mirror Mirror on the Shield

When you defend an ally, using the shield of the lost soldier, add this option to the list

* Reflect an incoming spell or blast back at its origin

  1. Great adaptation of Captain America’s shield!  I’ll be “borrowing” that as a magical treasure. I like the three options for the move involving STR, DEX or INT, makes it more desirable & accessible to characters as a whole.

  2. * by studied knowledge of behaviour under fire, +WIS

    * by repeating the throw so, so many times that one of them is bound to eventually threaten the target, +CON

    * while persuading the opponent to stand still for a moment,  +CHA

  3. Studied Knowledge seems more like an INT thing to me.

I was pretty intentional with the choices there actually to evoke some specific comic tropes. I might even ink of changing the advanced move so that it interact differently depending on e choice you make. So DEX it returns for free, str you do some more damage for free and int for extra target.

    What do you think?

  4. Of course the Captain is seriously cool, but is there a real historic precedent of using shields as ranged weapons?

Just asking. It bothered me right through both the movies I saw.

  5. I think it is mostly because awesome. I think they did at least once in 300. Also a regular shield at is not made out of vibranium/adamantium wouldn’t fly as good.

  6. Tim Franzke Different advanced moves with different stats sounds like a good idea.

Wynand, no historic throwing shields. Some hitting ones, with spikes.

Actually, even weapons intended for throwing or striking are unusual. Spears can be (see 300, again), but its pretty much only the Romans in certain periods who planned for it, throwing a light spear/javelin at foot troop, but keeping hold of it againt cavalry.

    Or Thor, obviously.
