Please excuse my total newb ignorance, but what exactly is a “Compendium class” and how does it differ from the core classes?  Is it something like a Pathfinder/D&D3.x prestige class?  I apologize if it is explained in the core rulebook and I’ve just missed it somehow.  Thanks for answer in advance.

  1. A compendium class is kind of like a prestige class in 3.x; you fulfill an entry clause (like “lead a large number of people into battle” or “get your own ocean-going vessel” or “eat the heart of a dragon”), and you get some new moves available when you level up.

  2. Yep, it’s like a prestige class. When you perform the deed required to unlock the compendium class, you can then take the first move in that CC when you level up. This unlocks several new move options.

  3. Here’s an example from Funhaver Studio’s CC collection: The Assassin. The entry trigger is “When you accept payment to end the life of another”.

Now, once you perform the entry requirement, a compendium class has what you could call an “entry move” that you have the option to take when you level up. In this case, it’s called “Surveillance”, and it’s a specialized version of Discern Realities that’s focused on scouting out a target.

Once you take that move, then there’s three to five moves that also become available when you level up. For the Assassin, this includes a move that lets you completely hide small weapons on your person that can’t be detected, getting bonuses when attacking your prey, or flat-out not dying when you get killed while under contract.
