I got my one of my Sunday GMs to run a game of Dungeon World so I could finally play the game I’ve fallen in love with. Sharing his review of the system with you, :).

While going through the book, he kept asking if you guys (Sage LaTorra  Adam Koebel) had a Filipino “on staff” because of all the local mythology that’s made it into the bestiary. I’m curious as well to know how you became exposed to our native demons.

Very excited to receive our physical copies now! (Soon!)

  1. I’m not super proud of this, but: Wikipedia.

We wanted to do what D&D did, and include our take on monsters of folk lore, but so many of the typical Euro-centric ones are already covered. So we did some wikipedia reading and, due to how Wikipedia categorizes or how awesome Filipino folk lore is, we ended up with a lot from there.

    Glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Don’t feel too bad, Sage LaTorra; that’s how I learned about our local lore as well! Malaysian and Chinese spirits are more popular, but I feel that the ones here have that charm born of crossroads culture. Seeing them in Dungeon World unexpectedly definitely was fun. Cheers for that, :).
