So, I had this idea about randomized dungeons that I intended to work out. It’s basically a way to make a randomized adventure with beer coasters. I need help finishing this project, because I’m all ideas and often very little action.

If you have anything to contribute, it’ll be greatly appreciated. I plan on making a pdf containing everything needed to make this project work, and I’d be happy to hear your thoughts on it.

It was originally meant to be made for Dungeon World, but I figured it’d be a lot easier to make system-neutral.

Read about the concept on my blog. And I’m dead serious; I want to see this project through, and I want to use it for pick up games using Dungeon World.

  1. I’ve been toying with a variant of 1,000 Blank White Cards where players draw dungeon tiles on one side and write mechanisms/descriptions/treasures/characters on the other. They also as a number, 1-6. Then, players shuffle all their cards and together. Cards can be played as a bunch of different things and each game is different based on what cards are included and how they are used. People could also make, share, and trade the cards.

  2. The idea is to have a dynamic way to create dungeons of a certain theme, without actually doing any prep. The dragon could be any kind of “boss” monster, and the kobolds could be any kind of minions. I just go with kobolds and dragons because they are freaking cool!

And yeah, it’s easy to expand upon and make new rooms. I bought 20 white coasters from my local hobby shop for a price of <10$, so it's not exactly expensive.

  3. Kasper Brohus The cards are about 2/3 the size of a coaster – you could easily adapt the geomorph/ dungeonmorph maps to coaster size.

Dave’s Mapper has a list for all the mappers that contributed tiles.

  4. Shane Knysh I’ve looked at the dungeonmorphs and davesmapper, and they look like great resources. While their purpose is similar to my coasters-under-development. there’s at least some ideas I can use. Maybe I’ll buy a set of morph’s and just make an adventure based on that system.

    Thanks for the link!

  5. I mean, the difference is I use resources that are out there and just add to them. My coasters aren’t a new idea it seems, but the randomized adventure design can still be implemented.
